(Photos must be taken between April 19-30, 2010; Entries must postmarked by May 12, 2010)

Students in grades 5-8 are invited to be part of this unique national effort to capture our changing world. Take a photograph sometime from Monday, April 19 through Friday, April 30, 2010 (Earth Day itself is April 22) of something changing in your local environment: your backyard or neighborhood, near your school or in a local park, or off in the distance toward the horizon.

Students must also research and write an essay (400 words or less) that answers the following questions about the change taking place, its cause and impact and how it may look in the future. The first place winner receives a new digital camera! For the full list of essay questions, prizes and judging information, and suggestions for using this activity in the classroom visit: http://www.strategies.org/EarthDayPhoto.
