‘What is a Planet’ DVD Wins International Bronze Award for Education Video

The Summit Creative Award is open to advertising and public relations agencies, advertisers and in-house marketing departments, video production and multimedia agencies, graphic designers and other creative companies with annual billings of less than $30 million.  The awards program was launched in 1994 to reinforce the importance of these agencies and their influence on our everyday culture and the international economy. This year’s Creative Competition drew nearly 4100 entries representing twenty-four countries from five continents.

The ‘What is a Planet?’ DVD explains the International Astronomical Union’s definition of a planet via visually stimulating 3D graphics and animations. The DVD begins with a short history of the discovery and naming of the planets through Pluto’s discovery in the early 20th century. As additional discoveries are made, the DVD explains why there was pressure to define a scientific definition of a planet in 2006 and details each part of the definition and presents the controversy of Pluto’s reclassification.
